In the past it was called Vineola, then Vignola, today Pignola is a village in the National Park of the Appennino Lucano, in the region of Basilicata. It’s not far from the main town of the region. it is situated on a mountain, at 927 m.a.s.l. Pignola is a crossroads between the Sellata Pierfaone mountains, popular destination for skiers and hikers, and the valley, where there’s the regional reserve of the Pantano Lake and a WWF oasis, with a stunning natural landscape. Pignola is a historic village, famous for its one-hundred gates “cento portali”. It has typical narrow alleys and steep stairs between the local dwellings. It is an architectural highlight to discrover.
